I’ve been using ChatGPT for pretty much everything I’m working on lately – from writing design documents, implement them with code, to generate content and images.
Recently, I’ve started using ChatGPT as an SEO Expert Copilot. This blog post focuses on the work I’ve done for my free ASCII Art Generator
I’ve used the a few prompts to get some great feedback:
I’ve created a small tool https://ascii-images.com/ Can you suggest content that I can add to it to make it rank better in google?
This prompt queried me about a few goals and current state, then worked for almost 10 minutes, and generated a full Keyword research report – here’s the first few lines:
Keyword Research
Identify a mix of high-traffic core keywords and niche long-tail terms related to ASCII art and image conversion. Focusing on these will help attract artists, developers, and meme enthusiasts via search:
- ASCII Art Generator – A top query for image-to-ASCII conversion tools. High search volume and very relevant to the site’s functionality (users explicitly looking to generate ASCII art from images).
- Image to ASCII (also “picture/photo to ASCII”) – Common phrase used by users wanting to turn pictures into text art. Targeting this ensures the tool appears for those seeking to convert images.
It also included some content suggestions, the first one being:
Content Suggestions
To improve SEO and engage the target audience, consider adding rich content to the site beyond the basic tool and docs. Below are recommended content pieces (blog posts, guides, landing pages) that align with popular keywords and audience interests:
- Tutorial Guide: “How to Convert Images to ASCII Art – Step by Step.”
Keywords: how to make ASCII art from images, ASCII art tutorial, image to ASCII guide.
Content: A beginner-friendly walkthrough using the site’s tool. Explain uploading an image, adjusting settings, and saving the ASCII output. Include screenshots of the process and tips for best results (e.g. choosing high-contrast images). This targets users searching for guidance and educates artists/designers and novice developers on using ASCII-images.com effectively. It’s also highly shareable for those learning a new skill.
Then it showed some competitive analysis and spit out a “Prioritized Content Plan”, which I asked it to tweak a bit to include high-level content and recommended length for each article.
After I wrote a few of the recommended articles – How to Convert Images to ASCII Art and The ASCII Standard – I gave ChatGPT those links, and got back multiple suggestions to improve them – add an intro, add a link here and there, add a CTA – just like an SEO Expert would recommend.
After that, ChatGPT suggested working on a “Featured Snippet Optimization Pack”, which we did. by adding definitions, tables and so on.
After makign some more changes, I was ready for the next round of review. I used the following simple prompt:
I made all the required changes. Please rescan https://ascii-images.com/ and give any additional recommendations.
And also told it to “decide what’s more critical for the website in order to increase traffic as much as possible.” It went back to work for 13 minutes and gave me a full “SEO Audit and Growth Strategy” with the following outline:
